“People are our fundamental resource and we believe that our success depends on their skills.” Fabio Pompei, CEO of Deloitte Central Mediterranean, explains, in a long interview with Fortune, that he also dedicates the cover to him, the philosophy of his business development project in which employees are at the center of everything.

A winning strategy that also aims at a strong female presence (42%) and which has talent, innovation and closeness to customers as its pillars.

A route that has seen turnover grow by 75% in 5 years, reaching 1.3 billion euros and doubling the number of employees, which today are 13 thousand.

Among the “talents” of the Deloitte network in Italy, 54% are under 30 years old. And precisely as regards women, there is a “Dmum program” which helps new mothers return to work by guaranteeing the possibility of reconnecting with the projects and clients followed before maternity leave. As regards men, an addition of 10 days to paternity leave is established compared to that provided for by Italian legislation. All this integrated with a “hybrid” model that optimizes the advantages of smart working and in-person work.

On this basis, Deloitte – explains Pompei – develops its action, very strong in stem (technological and scientific) skills. And within this framework, the company is firmly focusing on the development of artificial intelligence and its applications.

“For this reason – underlines the CEO – we have multiplied our hiring of AI professionals and created a “competence center” for generative artificial intelligence. For this division alone, in which 100 professionals work today, we expect to hire another 500 people over the next three years.”

The challenge is not only technological but also ethical. “From the beginning we have supported the importance of AI governance capable of orienting its development in a positive direction.”

The “Impact for Italy” project is part of this organizational context, which has as its objective the development and competitiveness of our country. A project that involves, among other things, institutions, the third sector and universities, for the growth of businesses at local level. With investments in the South that help young talents develop professional careers in their cities and regions.
