At the center of the discussion, moderated by the lawyer. seafarer Luca Brandimartehuman resources as the main growth asset for maritime transport and all the critical issues to be worked on to bring young people closer to maritime professions.

The shipping industry is struggling with a shortage of maritime personnel which has taken on emergency features, particularly during the summer season when the number of people transported between the continent and the islands increases exponentially.

Last November, an Interministerial Decree, in agreement between MIT and MEF, allocated important economic resources for the training of new professionals by companies which, individually or together with trade associations, organized meetings with students and with those looking for a job.

The presence of adequately trained personnel on board ships, in addition to being clearly indispensable for navigation purposes and compliance with manning tables, is also a fundamental element for the relaunch of Italian maritime activity and for the development of the job market.

For this reason, the Sea Plan, coordinated by Minister Musumeci, has placed maritime work in its various facets at the centre, with particular attention to training and young people.

Pto enhance the professions of sea – underlined the General Director Luca Sisto -“we must first make them known, and it’s a cultural discussion, even before being professional. Renter the sea at the center of our country’s political action will allow us to increase the awareness of the many opportunities that the professions offer sea offer and will offer to our young people”.

Simplification therefore appears to be an element that can no longer be postponed.

There are some meritorious initiatives that go towards the de-bureaucratization of the rules that regulate maritime transport and ports, which come for example from the Port Authority Corps – Coast Guard but also from Parliament, and the most concrete example is the Malan Bill or Simplifications Bill.

This need also seems to emerge clearly within the Sea Plan and its guidelines which will now have to be implemented within the role of coordination between Administrations that the Ministry of the Sea, through the CIPOM, has assumed by law.

“It is essential to urgently intervene on the regulatory simplification package – which Confitarma has been working on for some time” – he added Luca Sisto “to modify some rules of the Navigation Code (and not only) and simplify access to sea professions”.

An important focus was then dedicated to the challenge of the present: the energy transition, with particular reference to new fuels.

Elena Di Tiziounderlining the commitment of the Livorno community in the training field, underlined: “Gente di Mare is acting with enthusiasm and perseverance to offer advanced training and raise awareness of the professions of the sea”.

The occasion was propitious to inaugurate, in the presence of Minister Musumeci, the Tuscan territorial headquarters of the Italian Navigation Institute, presided over by Commander Bergamini.
