N for number one
The cross and delight of the season were the red and white goalkeepers, 4 of whom took turns between the posts. From the uncertainties of Rinaldini (sold in January) to the only appearance of Rossi (with useless controversy from the agent at the time of his farewell), ending with the explosion of Lorenzi (the only 2006 starter in the group in goal) and the confirmation of the “talisman ” Viti, decisive in the final and third promotion in a row to Serie C.
Or as guests
The sector of the ‘Cabassi’ stadium which from next year will once again be populated by large groups of fans in Serie C. This year, apart from the 350 people from Ravenna for the big match and a few other smaller groups following (Prato, Fanfulla, Sangiuliano , Imolese, Sant’Angelo and Forlì), has often remained empty.
P is for Patrizi and Tronci
The two red and white doctors, trait d’union with Serie A, who left their mark on the season with their professionalism. Patrizi was the man of providence in Sorbolo when with his intervention he saved Sabotic’s life, Tronci put Sall, the man of heavy goals, back on his feet with an ad hoc “insole” that allowed him to finish at the season is better.
Q for Fifteen
These are the useful results in a row at ‘Cabassi’ since the only home defeat against Fanfulla on 24 September 2023. From there 12 victories (of which the last 8 consecutive up to the 5-1 against Certaldo) and 3 draws, with 38 goals scored and 16 conceded. A fort with 42 points (even better than the “Benelli” for Ravenna) which in the end made the difference.
R for record
Those of Simone Saporetti, amazing finisher of the Serpini band. His 22 goals (those on the pitch, but 21 for the one scored in the 3-2 against Pistoiese) are the seasonal record of the 9 groups D and also the record for a Carpi player in a season (exceeded 21 each Gherardi and Roncarati). Now he is at 99 in his career: will his 100th come immediately in the post season or in Serie C?
S is for Sternieri
The legendary Claudio, warehouse worker in red and white for 15 years, emblem of the group of those who work behind the scenes and rarely take the spotlight: with him his right-hand man Mario Bolognesi, then the many collaborators who work in the office (Viola Baisi, Anna Borsari and Giancarlo Setti) or on the field on Sundays or during the week (Luca Diana, Cesare Paglia, Giuliano Sacchi, Mauro Barigazzi and Nicola Ferrari).
T for fans
The extra weapon of a team that -11 from the top, after the home draw with Borgo in mid-January, was told face to face in the stands “we don’t care that you win, but only that you fight with the same love for the shirt we have.” From there Carpi took off (13 wins and 2 draws) and in the last three decisive home matches against Ravenna, Forlì and Certaldo they saw a “Cabassi” as colorful as only in the Serie B days.
U like one at a time
It has become the comeback mantra of the last 3 months. “No tables, let’s just think one match at a time” everyone repeated, in turn, in the press conference, coaches, directors and players. Not the best for those who have to make headlines in the newspaper, but it was worth it.
V for victories
There are 22 in total out of 34 matches, at least one against each of the 17 rivals in the group, as has never happened in Carpi’s history. Two successes out of 2 came against Fanfulla, Sant’Angelo, Mezzolara, Aglianese, Sammaurese and Certaldo.
Z is for zero goals conceded
There were 11 in total out of 34 matches for the red and white ‘clean sheets’, just 4 in the first round (21 goals conceded, more than one on average per match) and 7 in the return, where the red and white goal was entered only 12 times. It is in this fact that there is much of the return to C.
