Messina, the Aldo Moro park will open on May 23rd

The appointment has been scheduled. May 23rd at 12. That will be the moment when the Aldo Moro park will be opened. The new, unrecognizable green area of the city. Unrecognizable and new because there, on Viale Regina Margherita, there has always been a green space but it had nothing to do with what came out after the ForestaMe works.
“We are giving back a precious piece of our territory that perhaps few knew about,” the mayor said yesterday Federico Basile launching the appointment in the diary. A choice shared with the leaders of INGV, which has had its own activity in the park for decades, and who visited Basile yesterday. A historic agreement between Palazzo Zanca and the Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology for the use of that space in a profitable and shared way. The INGV will not only remain in the area but plans to resume, with Pnrr funds, a series of monitoring activities that had been suspended, strengthening its presence. The Municipality will take care of the rest of the areas. He has already done it with the construction site and then he will do it with the demanding maintenance of the Park named after the DC statesman. Based on the agreement stipulated in 2022, Palazzo Zanca has a free loan for use with the right of revocation from INGV (to which it sold it in 1949) 24 months in advance, but only if Palazzo Zanca decides to change destination of use of those 14 thousand square meters.
The works started in the spring of 2023, with the contract awarded – starting bid of 1.4 million, with the reduction the figure fell to just over 950 thousand euros – to the group of companies made up of Edil Young Srl of Agrigento and by Elcal Srl of Favara. The project was presented during a press conference, held in January 2022, by De Luca and his council: those renderings, which left room for imagination, have now been transformed into a work that is even more beautiful than those projections.
The Park has an oriental, almost Zen flavour, with those white concentric circles on the south side. The spaced white stone benches encourage meditation. And then there’s a scary view!. On one side the view of the north coast, on the other the port, the cruise ships and the Falce. Spoiled for choice with a sunrise that will be shivering seen from there.
There are no games for children because it will be a space, although suitable for the little ones, with a different vocation, and no less inclusive. Its opening should have taken place in recent weeks but a problem with the lawn required a review of the irrigation system which is now fully operational.
