Lack of liquidity, Molise Acque cuts the water flow: municipalities dry

The financial situation of Molise Acque, as reported in TGR Molise, the regional body responsible for the management of water resources in the 136 municipalities of Molise, is under the spotlight due to a large debt and the consequent difficulties in maintaining water supplies to the municipalities .

The special regional company, chaired by Stefano Sabatini, is facing a liquidity crisis resulting from an uncollected credit of 12 million euros from Grim scarl, a company that manages municipal water networks and issues bills to end users.

This debt has made it difficult for Molise Acque to pay for the electricity needed to operate the lifting stations, which guarantee the water supply to the municipalities. The threat of contractual termination by the electricity supplier, resulting in an increase in energy costs of up to 80%, pushed the utility to take drastic measures.

To avoid a collapse of the regional water system, Molise Acque was forced to reduce consumption and partially limit the operation of some lifting stations. This could translate into a reduction in the quantity of water supplied to municipalities or a limitation of operating hours, with inevitable inconvenience for citizens.

Stefano Sabatini underlined the urgency of the situation, stating that the system risks default if immediate corrective measures are not taken. The tariffs blocked since 2011 are no longer sufficient to cover the growing energy and operating costs, making the institution’s financial situation increasingly precarious.
