The Veneto Journalists’ Union expresses solidarity and closeness to the Rai colleagues on strike today 6 May to defend the autonomy and independence of the public radio and television service from the constraints of politics.
As Usigrai highlights, the lack of an information project in Rai’s industrial plan, the lack of staff in the editorial offices and the company’s refusal to hold a public selection, together with the attempt to limit freedom of information with increasingly pressing issues in politics are signals that put the quality of the public service at risk, its ability to inform and affect pluralism itself.
What is happening in the Italian public radio and television service concerns us all. Having independent, plural and quality information at heart means defending the fundamental conditions that make the exercise of democracy possible.
