Sannio, tobacconist-delicatessen destroyed by flames: three arrests

A man and a woman, in order to obtain from the insurance a compensation for damages who hovered around the 50 thousand eurosthey would have decided to set fire to the shop they managed, entrusting the task to an accomplice.

Yesterday, at dawn, three arrests were made. In jail Domenico Coppola19 years old, from Casal di Principe, who allegedly physically set the place on fire, and the alleged instigators Nicola Caterino45 years old, also from Casal di Principe, e Luisa Ortis, 34 years old, from Benevento but also resident in Casal di Principe for some time. The latter benefited from house arrest.

The three are considered seriously suspected of arson of a commercial establishment which occurred on 10 September San Martino Sannita. The investigations were carried out by the operational and mobile unit of the Benevento Company and were coordinated by the Prosecutor’s Office, governed by Aldo Policastroin particular by the deputy prosecutor Maria Gabriella Di Lauro. The orders, at the request of the Prosecutor’s Office, were issued by investigating judge Maria Di Carlo. The investigations developed after the fire in the tobacconist-delicatessen, completely destroyed by flames, which occurred on 10 September last year in the San Giacomo district. The investigations, carried out by the police, began after a thorough inspection of the burned shop, also viewing the footage from the surveillance cameras in the area. The military had focused their attention on a young man, partially disguised, who had been engulfed in flames when setting fire to the place and had walked away on an electric bike. The carabinieri then recovered, again near the business, some partially burnt clothing belonging to the young man who had been caught while fleeing by the electronic eyes present in the area.

The clothes were then seized together with the room that was set on fire. The military, therefore, had started checks to understand whether, in the hospitals of Campania, a young man with burns on his body had been transported or visited, thus identifying, in a hospital in the Neapolitan area, a young man who due to physical characteristics and burns reported could be compatible with the person responsible for the fire. Furthermore, from the inspection of the premises, some anomalies emerged compared to the statements made by the managers. The subsequent and in-depth investigations, conducted through observation services, searches and seizures, telephone and environmental interceptions, the examination of telephone records, as well as through the questioning of witnesses, had allowed the investigators to acquire elements of guilt against the three, in order for the fire, and in particular serious indications of guilt both for the material author of the fire, the 19-year-old who had been visited and hospitalized, and for the managers of the commercial business, believed to be the arson raid warrants, i.e. those who According to the prosecution, they had orchestrated everything to obtain insurance compensation.

Caterino and Coppola were locked up yesterday morning, after the notification of the orders, in the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison, where in the next few hours they will be questioned by the investigating judge Di Carlo, who issued the measures, while Ortis will be heard in the court, being under house arrest. The three have appointed lawyers Antonio Merone and Mirella Baldassino as their defenders.
