In Taurianova smart bins to save on bills

The Municipality’s objective is to increase glass collection by 22%.

Going beyond separate waste collection based only on “door to door”, encouraging citizens to “proximate” delivery of materials to be recycled: for this reason the Municipality of Taurianova has equipped itself with new technologically advanced equipment dedicated to the collection of glass.

In fact, 2 “roll-off computerized eco-cassettes”, 10 “intelligent bins” and 3 “intelligent 2-mouth containers” have arrived – they are called this because they measure the quantity left by the user for reuse and are designed to connect in real time to a discount that it can obtain on the tariff – which the municipal administration was able to purchase by adding budget funds to the contribution of 75,000 euros obtained after participation in the tender promoted by the Anci and the CoReVe consortium.

“The intent with which the council led by mayor Roy Biasi is working, thanks to the impulse provided by the councilor for the environment, Antonino Caridi – it is written in a note – is to create ‘mini islands’ in the vast municipal territory of glass’, which have also become an appreciable element of street furniture, to considerably increase the quantity of specific material currently collected with door-to-door alone – 484,200 tons per year – helping to further reduce the costs of the service which affect the tariff Tari.

This first investment, which also allows for an enhancement of those services that increase the attractiveness of the ‘smart city’ that Taurianova has become, also aims to help traders who can find greater convenience in a system that allows rapid disposal in the identified areas ”.

“The stimulus to ‘The more you recycle, the less you pay’, the slogan chosen by the municipal administration which has led to a surge of +11% in separate waste collection in 2023 alone – continues the note – is accompanying the communication campaign launched by the CoReVe consortium, also with meetings in schools, the result of the financing obtained by participating in the tender”.

The objective aimed at by the Municipality, putting together the effects of the new instrumental equipment and the information provided to citizens, is to obtain an estimated increase of 22% in glass collection, and for this reason – in compliance with the forecast of the announcement – the CoReVe consortium will directly take care of the glass collection for at least 18 months using the new tools, adding these quantities to those that will continue to be recorded with the “door to door” collection entrusted to the Muraca company.

“Even in the environmental sector we continue to move from words to deeds – declare Biasi and Caridi – and, this time, these are extraordinary facts because they bring together the brilliant participation of the organization in a tender and the offer to the city of a service in which technology helps save on the bill”.
