Massimo Sirelli “kidnapped” for two days by the “Belle Arti” of Catanzaro • Wonders of Calabria

The paths of the Academy of Fine Arts of Catanzaro and Massimo Sirelli have crossed. The opportunity was offered by the two-day workshop whose protagonist was the well-known artist and creative whose works, illustrations and installations have now become iconic. On the other hand, the students of the Academy who thus had the opportunity to meet a Calabrian artist (Sirelli was born in Catanzaro) who in just a few years was able to “contaminate” the territory with art and beauty, not only the Calabrian one, building Behind each work is a narrative with great communicative power.

Thus, precisely through art, creativity and communication, the workshop unfolded by placing at the center the relationship between the technical and creative ability of the artist and the social and cultural context that surrounds him, between the creativity and the requests of the clients, in a I continually refer to the daily practice of interpersonal relationships which often ignore theory and perhaps limit creativity.

«In these two days we have summarized the main assets behind the birth of a project, behind the birth of an idea with a specific purpose, with a communication mechanism, with a usability of the creative product – said Sirelli -. And we also tried to summarize everything in a very short time, as the world of work often accustoms us to doing, even if it is in complete contrast with creativity, with ideation. The very beautiful and stimulating thing about this experience was the sharing of time: we talked about each other, we got to know each other and in this time the exchange of experiences, questions and discussions took place. We literally played with doodle art to have an agenda to discuss, but the truth is that many suggestions were born from this experience: the boys and girls were able to experience firsthand what is my life experience and of work brought to them within the study path they are undertaking”.

Sirelli was welcomed by the director of the Academy of Fine Arts of Catanzaro, Virgilio Piccari: «I am happy about the presence of Massimo Sirelli in the Academy – he said -. He is the testimony of how the Latin phrase “nemo propheta in his homeland”, which is often very true, can prove to be unfounded. It is a beautiful example for our students because the ultimate goal of the training action that this Academy intends to pursue is the construction of professional bases that allow young people who choose to study with us to find space in the world. of Calabrian work, if they feel like it, thus contributing to contaminating our region with new beauty and enthusiasm”.

Having graduated in 2003 from the IED in Turin in the Digital and Virtual Design department, for some years he collaborated as a freelancer with various communication agencies, working on well-known national and international brands. In 2006 he opened the creative studio Dimomedia and his works began to be published in some of the most important graphic and web design books in the world (Taschen, Gestalten, PepinPress). Since 2008 he has been a teacher of Presentation and Portfolio Techniques at the IED in Turin and Como.

In 2013 his artistic research in the world of upcycling met his passion for robots and creativity: thus AdottaunRobot.com was born, the first adoption home for companion robots in the world. By assembling waste materials collected around the world, orphans of industrial progress and unbridled consumerism, Sirelli gives life to numerous robots, each with its own very personal identity and with a story to tell.

Sirelli’s robots are looking for a family and can be adopted by anyone, as long as the future parents give good reasons for their gesture. In short, it is not just an economic factor, but a heart factor. AdottaunRobot.com is a project born from the desire to experiment through the culture of reuse design with a form of conscious creativity that brings the emotional aspect of matter to the fore.
