The award ceremony of the honorary degree in “Philosophy and theories of communication” to Professor Bernhard Waldenfels, born in Essen, was held in the ancient and prestigious setting of the Aula Magna of the Rectorate of the University of Cagliari this morning at 11am. in 1934, considered one of the most important thinkers of contemporary phenomenology in the German language. Central themes in his writings are phenomenological studies on experience, otherness and corporeity. His original theories ranged in areas beyond pure philosophy, touching on subjects such as psychology, art, and the social sciences.
The degree was awarded by the Rector of the University of Cagliari, Francesco Mola, leading the commission composed of teachers Gabriella Baptist and Pierpaolo Ceccarelli (Moral philosophy), Vinicio Busacchi (Theoretical philosophy), Elisabetta Gola (Philosophy and theory of languages), Angela Taraborrelli (political philosophy), Luca Vargiu (aesthetics) and Ignazio Putzu (glottology and linguistics).
This is the motivation for the recognition: «The University of Cagliari confers the honorary master’s degree on Professor Bernhard Maria Ludger for his scientific training, his intellectual career and the very rich range of publications, which characterize him as a significant heir of the great German philosophical tradition, which he brought to life through creative contact with contemporary thought, of which he is a recognized protagonist”.
