After the recent articles that appeared in the online newspaper Iacchite which tell of the latest vicissitudes of the municipality of Cosenza, it is no longer possible that citizens are left without an explanation by the institutions that guide this city. To date, no party or political force has intervened publicly regarding the news involving the president of the Cosenza municipal council, who went to the judicial police offices to report very serious facts which speak of clear and heavy mafia infiltration within the municipality of Bruzio. As proof of the seriousness of the matter, we note the total lack of denials from the institutional leaders. The matter is completely murky and no one seems interested in involving citizens on an issue which in other Italian cities, such as Bari and Turin, has caused an uproar and has led to the same force present in the council but here being taciturn calling for the fateful moral question.
As the Communist Refoundation Party, we believe that the real problem is represented by the interests that intertwine between politics and the private sector, a private sector that influences and determines the role of politics and its major expression: representation, thus undermining the collective protection of citizens, that of democratic legality and that of social justice. It is the generalized role of private money, in our latitudes (but not only) used in cahoots with criminal subjects, which buys or conditions – even in the legal form of liberal disbursement – politics, from municipalities up to national levels.
This practice is intertwined with various environments that have transformed the corrupt relationship in our city since the 1990s. In fact, it is no longer the exchange of bribes but the constant financing that transforms the politician or the white collar worker into a trusted man of the companies, often criminals, who support him. In this regard, it is interesting to read the book by the young researcher Saverio Di Giorno, Sodomia, from which a report presented in a hearing held in the regional anti-ndrangheta commission was taken. It must be said, in our opinion, that the recurring moral question is deeply intertwined with what was once wisely called class struggle; the distance between political representatives and citizens is increasingly evident and representation is completely emptied of meaning. Precisely for this reason it appears completely clear that the exploitation of the “useful vote” in fact it ends up only favoring an alternation of clientele between the centre-right and the centre-left, who are completely silent and disinterested.
How to Party this false alternation it had already become clear to us at the end of the first round of the last municipal elections, when, after having participated in the constitution and support of the Cosenza List in the Municipality, we publicly chose not to join and not support today’s centre-left mayor of Cosenza in the run-off. To this day, we remain dismayed by the deafening silence surrounding the matter. We cannot afford silence and distraction, especially after the sensational dissolution due to mafia infiltration, in one case, and heavy accusations against the leaders, in another, referring to municipalities in the urban area For this reason we believe that the issue should be immediately clarified by immediately convening an open city council, with the issue of organized crime in our city at the center of the discussion.introduced by a detailed explanation of the facts to the citizens of Cosenza.
