Palii di Siena 2024, special prizes for the standard bearers

The Siena City Council, which met this morning, Thursday 9 May, decided to accept the request of the Contrada della Lupa and that advanced by the Contrada Capitana dell’Onda to offer a special prize to the two pairs of standard bearers who will distinguish themselves, respectively, on the occasion of the historical procession of the Palios of Siena on 2 July and 16 August, to commemorate the wolf hunter Leonardo Fronzaroli and the wave hunter Massimo Salvadori, who passed away prematurely.

The Contrada della Lupa has proposed to award a special prize to the best pair of standard bearers of the Palio of 2 July 2024 in memory of the contradaiolo, Leonardo Fronzaroli, who passed away prematurely on 16 May 2023, who was the winner of the Masgalano in 1998. The Contrada Capitana dell’Onda has proposed, instead, to award a special prize to the best pair of standard bearers of the Palio of 16 August 2024 in memory of the contradaiolo, who died prematurely on 26 August 2023, Massimo Salvadori, who was the winner of the Masgalano in 1989.

The prize for the best pair of standard-bearers of the historic walk of 2nd July will be officially presented on the occasion of the presentation of the Drappellone of July and of the Masgalano (which will be held on 26th June), while the prize for the best pair of standard-bearers of the historical walk of 16 August will be officially presented on the occasion of the presentation of the August Drappellone (which will be held on 10 August). The awards to the standard bearers for the two Palios of Siena in 2024 will be awarded at the ceremony celebrating the winners of the Masgalano.
