CROTONE – “We believe that it is necessary to put an end to this continuous environmental aggression towards the Crotone area”. Filippo Sestito, president of Arci Crotone, is angry with the Safeguardia Ambientale gasification plant, one of the companies of the group headed by the patron of Crotone football, Gianni Vrenna, to which the Region recently gave the green light in terms of environmental compatibility.
“It is time to adopt a more responsible and sustainable environmental policy that protects people’s health and safeguards the natural heritage of our city” adds President Arci, asking “the competent authorities to publicly answer the following questions: why was the green light granted free for the construction of a 25 tons per day gasification plant to treat dangerous and non-hazardous organic waste and wash containers in such an environmentally sensitive area? Have they realized the potential negative repercussions that these activities could have on the health of citizens and the local ecosystem?”.
“We can no longer tolerate being victims of choices that jeopardize our health and our future” adds Sestito, inviting the “institutions that have granted authorizations for the construction of new industrial plants in Crotone, the Region, the Municipality and the Province of reflect on the consequences of these decisions. It is unthinkable to continue to poison and sell off the Crotone territory, already seriously compromised by decades of uncontrolled industrial activity.
