Fencing Modica achieved a brilliant result at the Grand Prix Giovanissimi in Riccione, with Sofia Spadaro winning a splendid bronze medal in the Girls’ Women’s Foil category. This success represents an important achievement for Sofia, which significantly improves on her previous experiences in national competitions.

During the competition in Riccione, Sofia managed to overcome the double preliminary round with only one defeat in the first round and all victories in the second round, placing herself in 7th place out of 105 participants. This placement allowed her to be exempted from the first round of direct elimination, directly accessing the draw of 64.

In the main draw, Sofia demonstrated her determination and talent, winning her bouts with authority. She overcame tough opponents to reach the semi-finals, where she faced the Venetian Gervasutti, already her opponent in the second national test in Rovigo. Despite a tough fight, Sofia had to settle for third place, while her opponent took the Italian title.

This bronze medal is a prestigious achievement for Sofia and for Fencing Modica, and it shines as if it were gold. The team’s return to Riccione for the Italian Gold Cadet and Youth Championships testifies to the team’s continued commitment and determination. Furthermore, other fencers from Modica will participate in the Italian Absolute Paralympic and Blind Championships in Emilia Romagna, demonstrating the breadth and variety of talent present in the team.
