Syracuse softball: 2024 season ends after loss to Boston College

Syracuse Orange softball had their winningest regular season under Shannon Doepking, but that journey came to a bitter end on Wednesday in the first round of the ACC Tournament, as SU fell to Boston College 1-0.

Lindsey Hendrix allowed only four hits in 5.1 innings, but the ‘Cuse Ace was outdueled by BC’s Abby Dunning, who tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout.

Syracuse had won their first round matchup each of the last two seasons before falling in the second. Even with the quick exit this spring, there was a lot of noticeable growth across the roster.

The Orange finish the campaign with a 28-23 (9-15 in ACC) record, which included taking 2/3 at home over both #15 VT and #14 FSU.

Senior outfielder Angel Jasso slashed .390/.430/.567 and set a program record with seven triples, tied for most in the conference. Hendrix’s 2.25 ERA was among the ACC’s Top 10, and the Orange staff as a whole ranked 5th with a combined 2.91 – that’s over a full run-per-inning better than 2023.

The odds are inherently stacked against a northeast Softball program like SU, but this was another year of solid progress. Their on field performance, along with upgrades to the Skytop Softball Stadium, are signs that the Orange can continue pushing for greater success in a top-heavy conference.
