Mother’s Day. Veneto ranks third in Italy for the representation of women in politics

Sunday 12 May 2024 is Mother’s Day. And like every year Save The Children analyzed the situation of Italian mothers, drawing up a ranking of the most “mum friendly” regions. Between these Veneto ranks third nationally for the representation of women in politics.

Mother’s Day: the regions that give the most attention to mothers

This year the Index of mothers by region is the result of an analysis based on 7 dimensions:

  • Demography
  • Work
  • Representation
  • Health
  • Services
  • Subjective satisfaction
  • Violence

In total they are 14 indicators analysed from various sources thanks to the collaboration of Istat. The reference value of the Mothers’ Index is equal to 100. Compared to it, higher values ​​represent more favorable territory for mothers; on the contrary, lower values ​​show a less “friendly” territory towards them.

Representation

As for our region, Veneto stands out in the area of ​​representationrelating to percentage of women in political bodies at local level. The region ranks third nationally with a score of 123,423.

Also on the podium are the Laziowhich is first with 134.054, and Umbria in second place with 128,468. Immediately after Veneto comes the Tuscany with 122,883, which loses one position since the last edition. Bringing up the rear is Basilicata (68.468) with well over 30 points of difference from the reference value.

Among the Venetian women most active in politics is the regional councilor and candidate for the European elections Elena Donazzan.

Born on 22 June 1972 in Bassano del Grappa, he began his political commitment in the Veneto Regional Council in 2000. During the seventh legislature, he was part of the Agriculture and Culture commissions. In 2005, she took over the role of Regional Councilor with responsibilities in sectors such as Education, Training, Work, Hunting, Civil Protection, Consumer Protection, Food Safety and Veterinary Services.

In 2010, was re-elected to the Regional Council and continued to operate as a Councillor, focusing her work mainly on Education, Training, and Work. Starting from October 2014has expanded its skills to also include Transport, within the Zaia Council.

Subsequently, in the elections of May 31st 2015was re-elected in the Veneto Regional Council and maintained the role of Councilor in the Zaia Council. His responsibilities remained substantially the same as the previous legislature, with the addition of the task of supervising Equal Opportunities.

Furthermore, we also remember the Vice President of the Region, Elisa De Bertiwho assumes the President’s responsibilities in the event of his absence or impediment.

The Vice President is also the point of reference for several thematic areas, including Legal Affairs and Litigation, Public Works, Local Development/IPA, Infrastructure, Transport Planning, Local Public Transport, Inland and Port Navigation, and Sustainable Mobility.

Among the Venetian politicians there is also the regional councilor for Health, Social Services and Social and Health Planning, Manuela Lanzarin.

There are also many Venetian women candidates for the European elections next June. In addition to the aforementioned Elena Donazzan, for the North East constituency there is also the deputy of Fratelli d’Italia Alessia Ambrosi, originally from Negrar di Valpolicella.
