46 years have passed, the example, the teaching, the modernity of Moroteo’s thought remains. When politics thought, when democracy advanced along the frontier of confrontation, of listening, of recognizing one another. Aldo Moro worked for complete democracy.
Every year, on the occasion of his tragic death, the democratic Catholics of Arezzo of DEMOS remember the figure of the great Christian Democratic statesman. He is among the personalities who in the 23 years of life of the White Rose Observatory have acted as our cultural, civil and social guide. Aldo Moro’s gaze was always turned towards the new world. A democratic Catholic, Moro represented intelligence, political sophistication, persuasive action, testimony to the extreme sacrifice.
There are Morotean intuitions that today, in these fast-moving times, appear even contemporary:
we quote from Gino Pallotta’s beautiful book “Moro portrait of a leader” for Edizioni Pisani, 1975:
“ Conservatism as a mentality…explains the worrying resurgence of the right or even fascism in Italy. The conservatives, Moro argued, did not want to have, in Italy and in the world, the extension of what he called the area of human dignity.” Many years ago, it seems like today!
Moro and Peace, attention to the Mediterranean and Palestine, the ways of negotiation and mediation, the democratic Catholics of DEMOS, on 9 May 2024, remain faithful to this Morotea “frontier” and pay homage.
