PRAIA A MARE (COSENZA) – Tires slashed on local police vehicles, a true criminal act: this is how the act committed against the local police of Praia a Mare was defined. When the local police commander made a disconcerting discovery inside the video-surveillance area reserved for the local police, he noticed that four cars, two motorbikes and three scooters, all with slashed tires, were found damaged. Mayor Antonino De Lorenzo was immediately informed of the incident.
“It’s an unprecedented criminal act in Praia a Mare – declared De Lorenzo in an initial reaction – evidently, the local police must have bothered someone”. The mayor hypothesizes that this may have been an act of retaliation following the recent intensified controls in the area.
The reaction of the minority of “Amare Praia” was immediate: “During the night, unknown persons damaged the vehicles of the Local Police: tires of cars, motorcycles and mopeds were slashed. We express great concern about what happened. We demonstrate our solidarity and closeness to the Municipal Police Force. We ask that all necessary actions be taken to identify those responsible for this act of intimidation. We invite the municipal administration to undertake all measures and initiatives necessary to protect the institution’s staff together with residents and guests. Amare Praia is available to start a discussion table on local security to ensure that such acts never happen again”.
The authorities promptly started investigations, with the complaint submitted to the police. The police are carefully analyzing the images of the video surveillance cameras, not only those inside the enclosure where the damaged vehicles were kept, but also those nearby, in an attempt to identify the culprits. “We have activated all possible channels to trace those responsible as soon as possible – declared De Lorenzo – this is a frontal attack on the local police force and cannot go unpunished”.
