FABRIANO PRESENTS ‘FABRIANO CONTEMPORANEA’ AND ‘CARTARE’ AT THE TURIN BOOK FAIR

Fabriano – On the occasion of the XXXVI Turin International Book Fair, which will be held from 9 to 13 May 2024, the city of Fabriano will present two important publications: “Fabriano Contemporanea”, the catalog of the International Biennial of Contemporary Art and the volume ‘ Papering. Memoirs of women in the city of paper’. These volumes constitute a precious testimony of the art and culture of Fabriano, and harmonize with the theme of this year’s Salon, “Imaginary Life”. The theme reflects on how literature, art and creativity in general can anticipate and shape reality, opening doors to possible worlds and imagined futures. This dialogue between imagination and reality is perfectly reflected in the volumes presented, which, through the history and artistic expressions of Fabriano, invite us to explore how art can interpret and transform our perception of the world.

The presentation event will be held on Saturday 11 May at 11:00 in the MARCHE Room. The presentation will be attended by the Councilor for Culture of the Marche Region Chiara Biondi, the Councilor for Beauty of the Municipality of Fabriano Maura Nataloni, the curator of “Fabriano Contemporanea” Chiara Zampetti Egidi, the authors of the volume “Memories of women in the city of paper” Michele Biondi, Lucrezia Caon, Sofia Salvatori.
The “Fabriano Contemporanea” catalogue, printed on Fabriano paper, recognized for its superior quality and Italian artisan production, contains pages of multilingual content (Italian and English) documenting the numerous installations, performances and projects carried out during the Biennale. With contributions from the artistic director Chiara Zampetti Egidi, the art critic Valeria Carnevali, the texts of the curators, Matteo Boetti and Anne -Sophie Dinant and the artists, including Luca Buvoli and Chiara Zampetti Egidi, the catalog stands as a point of reference essential to understand the dynamic interaction between contemporary art and the historical places of Fabriano.

Fabriano Contemporanea was the first edition of the international contemporary art biennial held in the city of Fabriano, a city in the Marche region known for the production of paper and watermark and a UNESCO Creative City. Conceived and directed by Chiara Zampetti Egidi, the event proposed installations specially created in the most significant places of the historic centre, as well as exhibitions, performances, artist residencies, workshops and meetings. Its uniqueness lies in the active participation of local communities in the production processes of the works specifically created for Fabriano Contemporanea. Art, therefore, has become an important moment of collaboration, aggregation and experimentation, involving Fabriano in stimulating international exchanges respecting communities, territories and traditions. The first edition, Fabriano Contemporanea #1 Intrecci, was inaugurated on 8 September 2023 (until 3 February 2024), organized by the Municipality of Fabriano and was a project supported by the Marche Region – Department of Culture thanks to the funding of the culture call intended for contemporary art.
Chiara Zampetti Egidi, creator and director of Fabriano Contemporanea, comments: “We wanted to create a high quality book that was more than a simple catalog and could remain current over time. The cover is designed by the artist Be Andr and is conceptually connected to the installation ORA (Now) specially created by him, in collaboration with the people of Fabriano, for Fabriano Contemporanea. The cover recalls the involvement of local communities, a central point of this Biennial.
The volume ‘Cartare’, written by Michele Biondi, Lucrezia Caon and Sofia Salvatori of the ISIA Urbino University, explores the stories of women in the city of Fabriano, joins the dialogue between past and present that characterizes the Biennale catalogue.

This is the declaration of the Councilor for Beauty, Dr. Maura Nataloni: “Fabriano Unesco Creative City interprets the dynamic essence of culture and its fundamental and transformative function in society. Fabriano Contemporanea fits into this perspective, representing much more than a simple exhibition of works of art. It was an event aimed at opening the city to an innovative cultural experience, a bridge connecting past and present, a place where tradition and experimentation merge in a creative embrace to project towards the future starting from the cultural roots of identity. Through the works of artists from different parts of the world, the event provided an insight into global culture, evolving art and the artistic voices rising to tell the stories and thoughts of our time. The catalog is a book that tells us all this through high quality texts and images. We are very confident in the novelty that this art exhibition represents and in the fact that it can constitute a first step in a longer and more successful journey. We thank the Marche Region for its precious, decisive contribution to the realization of this project.
