The brother: ‘the population shows that it rebels against certain logic’

On the eighth anniversary of her kidnapping and killing, hundreds of people gathered in Limbadi, in the Vibonese area, to remember the businesswoman Maria Chindamo, 42 years old, victim of the ‘Ndrangheta.

The body of the businesswoman, who was kidnapped while she was on one of the agricultural lands she managed, has never been found.
According to some collaborators of justice, the woman’s body was fed to the pigs.
The initiative to commemorate Maria Chindamo, which took place in the place where the businesswoman was kidnapped, was promoted by some associations.

Among the participants were representatives of Libera, Penelope, Agape and Goel and the world of school; local administrators and members of the clergy, led by Monsignor Attilio Nostro, bishop of the Diocese of Mileto-Nicotera-Tropea.

Maria Chindamo’s brother, Vincenzo, underlined “the massive participation in the event. The population – he said – increasingly shows that it is rebelling against certain logics. We want to feel like men and women of honor. Because honor means participating in a Calabria that rebuilds the pieces damaged by violence and organized crime. The land where Maria’s kidnapping occurred has become a place of rebirth, joy and happiness and the symbol of the collective commitment to rebuild the social fabric that organized crime has damaged.”

The lands that belonged to Maria Chindamo have returned to new life after they were entrusted to the “Goel” cooperative.
