Seasonal hiring, however, is growing, going from 58,555 in 2022 to 62,789 in 2023. Overall, throughout the peninsula, hiring activated by private employers was 8,175,000, almost stable compared to 2022 and in any case higher than the level reached before the Covid 19 health emergency, i.e. in 2019. As in Sicily, hiring on temporary contracts at -6%, on apprenticeships at -5%, and on permanent contracts at – 3%.


Fixed-term hiring is growing

All other types recorded a slight growth: intermittent work +5%, fixed-term +3% and seasonal +1%. As regards the hourly types, the incidence of part time, both horizontal and vertical, has remained substantially stable both for the set of fixed-term hires, of which it represents approximately 37%, and for those with permanent contracts, at 33%. . Businesses have benefited from various benefits. In particular, they mark an iincrease in the exemption for women (+1%), the exemption from contributions in the South (+6%) and the exemption for young people (+26%); all the other measures are decreasing (-54%). The “Southern Contribution Relief” benefit is confirmed as the benefit with the greatest impact, at least for the number of employees involved.

Youth exemption, on the other hand, provides for a 50% contribution exemption for 3 years, up to a limit of 3,000 euros per year, for the hiring of boys and girls under 30 years of age. Finally, the Southern contribution reduction bonus provides for a maximum contribution exemption of 30% in favor of private employers, based in one of the regions of Southern Italy, with reference to employee employment relationships.
