The proposal for constitutional reform of the so-called “premiere”, at the center of the discussion in the Senate, was addressed by the minister for institutional reforms and regulatory simplification at the Trento Festival of Economics, where he spoke with the journalist of Il Sole 24 Ore Emilia Flap. Upon his arrival in the city, the minister was welcomed by the councilor for economic development of the autonomous province of Trento.

The bill on the “premiership” which provides for the introduction of the direct election of the Prime Minister – as the Government representative explained – is based on the modification of 7 articles of the Constitution. The minister highlighted how the guarantee powers of the President of the Republic are not affected, guaranteeing the supervisory role of the Head of State on the promulgation of acts, as well as in the role of head of the CSM and the Supreme Defense Council. Responding to the objections of those who observe that the priorities are different, the minister observed that no health and tax reform can be completed by unstable governments. Instability which also affects the country’s credibility at an international level. The premiership, according to the minister, will instead guarantee the executives stability and planning capacity that will be good for families and businesses, thus encouraging investments from abroad. The minister, answering Emilia Patta’s questions, also hoped that a climate of dialogue with the opposition on the reform could be created which has so far been lacking due to the obstructionism put in place by minority groups. He then concluded by reiterating that the electoral law will be finalized soon, probably during the transition from the first reading in the Senate to that in the House.
