Giovanni Palmulli of the ‘Terre di Capitanata-Forza Foggia’ association dies

The ‘Terre di Capitanata-Forza Foggia’ association mourns the passing of one of its most fervent and convinced supporters of belonging to the roots and history of our land and of Southern Italy, which the community born in Foggia, of which it has always supported.

Many, starting with Giuseppe Quartucci, in recent hours have remembered Giovanni Palmulli, who died the day before yesterday: “We have lost a brother, a compatriot, a friend, a man from the South who defended our land with the claws of knowledge and the teeth of words. We are all more alone, but his absence will have to become fuel for us to continue our and his battle for historical truth.

A serious mourning in the world of identity for Franco Zavaglia: “I had the opportunity to meet and appreciate my friend Giovanni, in Gaeta, during the annual commemoration which commemorates the surrender of the Faithful City and the relative end of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Every year, for at least a decade we have met and updated ourselves on the various initiatives promoted, throughout the year, both in Terra di Capitanata and in Calabria Ultra Prima. Last March, unfortunately, Giovanni was not present, as he was already very debilitated. He was a very active person. It was he, together with his brotherly friend Germano D’amato, who created the Forza Foggia banner, with the coat of arms of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and circulated it in the Zaccheria stadium. It goes without saying that the fans of the Rossoneri team, thanks to this beautiful intuition, were able to rediscover the history denied by the winners and finally know what the flag of our ancient state was.”

This is Giancarlo’s thought: “It’s difficult to write something that I never wanted to write. But I owe it to you. And I also owe it to those who have not had the great fortune of knowing you and being your friend. I have had this fortune, and I I claim. You were a sincere, rare, loyal friend. Volcanic, precious, and captivating in your sobriety and calmness.

He is a proud southerner, serene but always strong and clear in claiming the reasons for our land and in committing himself to asking for justice, truth and fairness, together with the brotherly friends of Terra di Capitanata-Forza Foggia that you helped to found. Last but not least, a truly passionate Foggiano, in love with his city, always full of ideas, projects, values to make it better and to increase its identity and historical awareness.

I will miss your thundering voice, your jokes in perfect Foggia language, of which you were an expert, your composed yet engaging laughter, your tones always serene and inclined to dialogue but never giving in.

I will miss you my friend. And you will be missed by this city, Foggia, which you loved so much, and understood deeply, because this city cannot be loved if it is not understood, but it cannot even be understood if it is not loved. For this reason you will leave a deep void in the very conscience of Foggia, which you have long contributed to promoting, guarding, defending and affirming.

I wrote in one go and I won’t reread what I wrote, I let my heart speak, without filters, without attacking reason.”

The city councilor and university professor Nunzio Angiola also wanted to remember it on social media: “A decent person leaves us, a “real” person, a local history enthusiast, an art lover, someone who cared about Foggia, someone like few others. I met him and appreciated him in his capacity as spokesperson for the Terre association of Capitanata-Forza Foggia. It will be my specific commitment to carry forward some of its thousand battles and in particular the positioning of a reproduction of the statues of the Bourbon rulers in the pronao of the municipal villa”.
