Roma camp on 387, summit in the Prefecture

Two weeks ago there was yet another fire around the Roma camp on state road 387 between the municipality of Selargius and the border with Settimo San Pietro. Then a letter from the mayor of Settimo Gigi Puddu addressed to the Prefect of Cagliari, to once again raise the alarm about an alarming situation from a health and safety perspective.

The prefect Giuseppe De Matteis responded by inviting for today the mayor Puddu himself and that of Selargius, Gigi Concu, to a meeting about the problem. The mayor announced this in the city council, responding to a question from city councilor Davide Piga, presented a year ago on the situation of the “Su Pardu” land and on any positions taken by the municipality: a precarious hygiene situation, waste abandoned in the countryside , the already planned relaunch of agriculture also on land for civic use. On this occasion, we learned of the summons of the two mayors to the Prefecture, scheduled for today in Cagliari.

«This», says the mayor of Selargius Concu, «is a problem that cannot be solved by a Municipality: it is a situation of great importance, above all social, which must be addressed by the Region and the State. The situation is dramatic and full of risks: should we find a home for the Roma? We certainly can’t do it ourselves. I will bring a detailed dossier on the situation to the prefect. I await answers.”

Settimo is also concerned. «Fires», says Puddu, «are frequent, the health situation is what it is: our objective is to use the neighboring land for agriculture. Certainly in this situation and with these especially social problems, everything becomes difficult.”
