Selvaggia Lucarelli, the case is closed: no one instigated the restaurateur’s suicide

The Lodi prosecutor’s office has requested the dismissal of the investigation into the suicide of Giovanna Pedretti, the restaurateur from Sant’Angelo Lodigiano who was found dead on January 14th on the banks of the Lambro river. According to the investigators, “there was no contribution from third parties”, the woman committed suicide “by drowning” and there was no evidence of incitement to suicide. The investigating judge will now decide whether to accept the prosecutor’s request and close the proceedings. The file had been opened «in the unknown register – writes the prosecutor – for the crime of incitement or assistance to suicide. At the end of the investigative activity carried out”, the prosecutor requested the dismissal “due to the absence of criminally relevant facts” and for “the absence of other hypotheses of crime”.

The woman “committed suicide by drowning” after numerous attempts to injure herself “by means of a cutting instrument not capable of causing deep injuries” and that the suicide occurred a few days after Pedretti had published “the photo of an apparent negative review of the venue, containing discriminatory characteristics in terms of sexual orientation and disability, with the addition of one’s own comment”. The publication had received great media coverage with contributions from “some bloggers and well-known people in the world of social networks”. Investigations revealed that the review was not “genuine”.

None of the behavior carried out “by third parties – again according to the prosecutor’s office – who intervened in various capacities in the matter, can in any way be qualified as a criminally relevant fact attributable to the hypotheses of determination to commit suicide, strengthening of the intention of suicide or facilitation”. «No one induced anyone to commit suicide. The review was false.” It was Selvaggia Lucarelli who wrote it in «X», who took a hard step from her shoe regarding the Pedretti case in. Together with her partner, Lorenzo Biagiarelli, Lucarelli had in fact raised doubts about the veracity of the review posted by the woman on Facebook. «The press lied twice – Lucarelli wrote on the social network – giving false news about the review and giving false news about the people responsible for a death. A squalid and petty story that tells the system well.”
