The Sicily Course: A Heart Affected by Degradation

Corso Sicilia, which once represented the flagship of the city of Catania, is now a reflection of the political, cultural and economic degradation that afflicts our community. If once its streets were animated by commercial and financial activities, today they are marked by the closure of shops, the transfer of offices and leading companies elsewhere and the absence of economic vitality.

What was once a place of important meetings and deals has now become the scene of intrigue and entanglements, fueled by an unstable political climate and an uncertain economic landscape.

The degradation of Corso Sicilia is also manifested in its aesthetics: sidewalks invaded by wildly parked motorbikes, electric scooters abandoned at will and dirt that testifies to the lack of care and maintenance. There are also scenes of homeless people using the pavements as a dormitory and, unfortunately, as a public toilet.

The Italian Consumers’ Association has raised the issue several times with past administrations, asking for interventions that have never been sufficient. Now, the appeal is addressed to the new Mayor Lawyer, to seriously consider the redevelopment of this important city area.

However, all is not lost. Even if invisible like the fog of a dawn in Catania, some traffic police venture into the Ognina area, bringing a glimmer of hope to the abandoned streets of Corso Sicilia. Users can only say thank you for this rare morning sighting.

It’s time to bring the heart of Catania back to beating strongly, with a Corso Sicilia that is once again the fulcrum of city life and activity.
