Funds more than tripled, increase in the number of regional doctoral scholarships, which went from around 50 to around 130, more streamlined rules and a boost to scientific collaboration. There Sicily regionthrough the regional department of Education, university and right to study, invests in high post-graduate specialization by strengthening scholarships for research doctorates in Sicilian universities.
The notice, which uses resources from the ESF+ 2021-27 programme, was illustrated in the conference room of the Department of Vocational Education and Training, in the presence of the regional councilor and the rectors of Palermo, Catania, Messina, Kore of Enna and Lumsa of Palermo, as well as Sicilian research institutions and organisations. Specifically, 12 million euros have been allocated; the grants were also almost tripled, and the amount was increased through the recognition of the doctoral student’s annual budget.
The department also provides a concrete incentive for virtuous and transversal cooperation between the various universities and other research subjects, paving the way for scholarships (which must reach at least 50 percent of those financed overall) to be carried out in collaboration between universities and other research bodies supervised by ministries, such as the Cnr, or other research bodies with operational headquarters in Sicily, through the tool of co-tutoring. Furthermore, a specific financing line has been prepared for the specific support of research doctorate courses of national interest.
Co-tutoring will be activated with reference to the individual doctoral scholarship on the basis of an agreement or convention between the University and the research institution or body. For each regional scholarship, the doctoral student is expected to carry out a period of study and research abroad for between 6 and 12 months.
