Naturalistic and archaeological visit to the Pyrgi Natural Monument

SANTA MARINELLA – The 2 October Committee and the A Tutto Sole Energy Community invite citizens to participate in the archaeological and naturalistic visit to the Pyrgi Natural Monument, scheduled for tomorrow. The meeting point is at the entrance to the Santa Severa castle at 9am.

“The walk – says the Committee – is very easy and peaceful and with frequent stops for explanations, and will last about three hours. The natural monument was established by the Lazio Region with a presidential decree in 2017 and was inaugurated in the presence of Vito Consoli Regional Director of Parks and the regional councilor Avenali, but to date it still does not have a regulation. The Committee presented a draft regulation already in 2020, but today presented a new draft with the hope that, this time, the process will be successful. The draft regulation provides for car parking at the entrance to avoid car traffic in the area, a ban on building or expanding buildings, possible removable structures for the purposes of scientific research, teaching and sunbed rental on the free beach, organic farming. The plan divides the area into four zones, agricultural, tourist, educational, archaeological and of particular wildlife interest. The “Black Sands” from the coast to the Aurelia are not just sea and parking, as some would like, they represent an area whose very high archaeological and landscape value, from prehistory to ancient Pyrgi, has remained intact for more than two millennia. It is important that holidaymakers and residents know this jewel, frequenting it and preserving it for future generations.”
