Five scammers take money from an elderly man

They planned everything down to the smallest detail. But they didn’t get away with it. Five people, four women and one man, all residents in the Neapolitan area, who defrauded an elderly person from San Marino, were reported to the judicial authorities. The mechanism is now sadly known. Weeks ago, the San Marino man was contacted on the phone by a man who pretended to be his nephew. In that conversation he asked him for money to pay a penalty he had received from the Rimini Court. That was just the first of a long series of phone calls. Because shortly after, the elderly man was also contacted by another person who, in turn, passed himself off as the director of the Rimini post office. Director who, according to him, had been tasked with recovering the sum of money needed to get his nephew out of trouble. And he had informed the San Marino man that soon, at his house, a postal employee would show up to ‘collect’ that large sum. Employee who soon knocks on the door of the house of the San Marino resident in Castello di Città and then leaves the house with the money in his pocket. The repeated phone calls received did not allow the elderly man to immediately contact his family or the police to verify whether the money was really needed by his nephew. But he soon realizes the scam and soon presents himself to the Fortress Guard to report the incident. From here the investigations of the operational and judicial police section begin, in collaboration with the Italian authorities. Investigations that lead to the identification and reporting of the five people involved in the scam. The Guardia di Rocca once again reminds citizens that “no police operator or employee of public offices in general – underline the Titan’s police forces – contact people by telephone to request payment of reports or money for criminal proceedings. If receive these types of phone calls, do not follow up and immediately report what happened.” The Guardia di Rocca also remembers the telephone number of the Joint Operations Center (0549 – 888 888, 888 060), which you can contact “communicating any useful information such as the sex of the interlocutor, type of request, dialect cadence and the any telephone number”.
