“Volunteering is always outgoing, the heart open, the hand outstretched, the legs ready to go. Go out to meet and go out to give” (Pope Francis, 14.11.2022). The Year of Social Volunteering “Invited to Serve” 2024 – 2025 is preparing for its seventeenth edition! In this new year the project is associated with the next Jubilee of 2025. Pope Francis has already wanted to offer us some indications that specify the meaning of this event: “We must keep alive the torch of hope that has been given to us, and do everything so that everyone regains the strength and certainty to look to the future with an open heart, confident heart and far-sighted mind. The next Jubilee will be able to greatly facilitate the recomposition of a climate of hope and trust, as a sign of a renewed rebirth of which we all feel the urgency. This is why I chose the motto Pilgrims of Hope. However, all of this will be possible if we are able to recover the sense of universal brotherhood, if we do not close our eyes to the drama of rampant poverty that prevents millions of men, women, young people and children from living in a manner worthy of human beings. I think especially of the many refugees forced to abandon their lands” (February 11, 2022).
There Diocesan Caritas invites the young people of Andria, Canosa di Puglia and Minervino Murgenated between 1999 and 2008 to participate in the project, tailor-made for those who want to approach the world of volunteering and solidarity. The experience is also open to children of non-Italian citizenship or origin. An opportunity that has as its objective both individual growth, through putting oneself at the service of the weak and the excluded, and community growth, through the training of young people who are close to their neighbors and the least, without leaving anyone behind. There Caritas Diocesan of Andria promotes volunteering among young people to orient them to the culture of solidarity, active citizenship and legality, and accompany them towards more challenging choices through training, promotion, community life, work camps and service. Donate time to whom? The protagonists are minors and adults in difficult situations, the disabled, the elderly, and through fair trade, developing countries in redemption of their rights.
Participation in the project is voluntary and free. The children will be granted bonuses such as: gadgets, books, training credits/PCTO for secondary schools (possible training internships with universities). The AVS is preparatory to the Universal Civil Service. Memberships will be collected by June 2, 2024 through the QRcode shown on the poster. The project will be illustrated on Tuesday 21 May at 7.00 pm at the headquarters of the diocesan Caritas in Via E. De Nicola, 15. Our volunteers are also present within the city schools for meetings with school groups who request them.
