Azzaro: ‘Transition started by the Melucci Administration as a development model for European communities’

A delegation from the Municipality of Taranto led by the deputy mayor and councilor for Economic Development, Tourism and Sport, Gianni Azzaro, is present in Warsaw on the occasion of the initiative created and promoted by Eurocities, entitled “Innovation and resilience for urban food system”, for the signing of the “Milan Urban Food Policy Pact“.

A precious seal that sees the Ionian capital become part of the most important network of European cities active in the application of a significant transition plan regarding food sustainability: it is a commitment that will allow Taranto to implement new strategies for guarantee healthy and accessible food, avoiding waste, with a view to equity, resilience and sustainability.

«With this signature we consolidate a commitment born years ago under the impetus of the mayor Rinaldo Melucci: we establish further valuable relationships with European capitals and cities dedicated to the transition and sustainable development of our communities – declared the deputy mayor – the just transition plan “Ecosystem Taranto” contains a vast program of policies and initiatives linked to the implementation of good food practices, which is also a fundamental part of our path to achieving the objectives of the 2030 Agenda. Even in this complex and laborious field, our city emerges as solid reality, example of quality and innovation, starting from the “FoodShift2030” project launched with CIHEAM Bari for the drafting of the “Strategic Plan for the food transition in the City of Taranto”. We will passionately continue to do our part, enhancing the experience of Taranto and the Ionian territory within the large Eurocities network.»
