“There is a lot of satisfaction for Susanna Cenni’s success in Poggibonsi but bitterness for how things went in Colle. Susanna’s victory was only postponed, considering the large gap in the first round between her and the centre-right candidate. For Colle, there is no point in denying it, there is great disappointment. It is a shame that such a new proposal as that of Riccardo Vannetti has not managed to make a complete breakthrough. We will continue on this path, seeking an expansion and ever greater involvement of the city.” Thus the provincial secretary of the Democratic Party, Andrea Valenti (in the photo), on the response to the ballot for the choice of mayor in the two largest municipalities of our province. A run-off which in Colle saw Piero Pii, at the head of a civic coalition, defeat his challenger Riccardo Vannetti and wrest the government of the crystal city from the centre-left, and in Poggibonsi the success of Susanna Cenni, in continuity with the previous Pd administrations.
“Unfortunately in Colle we were unable to overturn the result – Valenti comments again -. My closeness, my respect and my affection go to Riccardo, to his companions in Colle, who have done an incredible job in this very long electoral campaign. This time we were unable to change the old politics, but certainly the old politics will not change us, we have lived a tiring and beautiful experience, which will bear much fruit. Now is a time of sorrow and pain, then the time will come to rebuild”. Valenti’s words were followed by those of the municipal secretary of the Pd of Poggibonsi, Lore Lorenzi: “Congratulations to Susanna Cenni. Her victory fills us with enthusiasm. The electoral result underlines the importance of a politics close to the people, capable of listening and responding to their needs. We are committed to maintaining a constant dialogue with all citizens, to valorizing active participation and to building an increasingly inclusive and prosperous Poggibonsi”.
