GalliateThursday 30 May at 9 pm the spring season of the event Meeting with the Author it ends with the author from Novara Donatella Brusatiwho will present his latest novel, The desire for goodpublished in April by Morellini Editore.

The novel –The desire for good” tells the story of two boys, Marcello and Francesco, born at the beginning of the twentieth century. Marcello lives on Lake Orta in a family marked by ignorance, poverty and alcoholism; Francesco, on the other hand, is the son of a well-known Genoese shipowner and spends a carefree childhood in the family villa. Both were destined for religious life at a very young age, and the former was forced to give up his dream of becoming a scientist and the latter a naval engineer. Now adults, they meet in the Vatican, where Marcello assists Francis, who has become cardinal, in the translation of pontifical documents. The advent of fascism, the racial laws and the war impose difficult choices on the two religious men; Francis will commit himself to helping the weakest and supporting the Resistance. Raffaella, Marcello’s childhood friend, will also choose to oppose fascism and in 1943, in the dramatic days following the armistice, the three protagonists will find themselves sharing a difficult journey through an Italy divided in two.

The author – Donatella Brusati, geographer and literature teacher, lives in the province of Novara. She debuts as a writer in 2021 with her first mystery novel, Bring me the sunflower (Eclissi Editrice), giving life, with its pages, to Monsignor Corrado Brunelleschi, bishop and passionate oenologist, and Francesca Malatesta, young Interpol inspector, who are also protagonists of the novel A perfect execution (EllediLibro Editore, 2023). He is part of the editorial team of Milanonera and is co-founder of Ombre Gialle, a reading group active at the Galliate Library.
