Genoa – Eleven months ago the “Giorgio Arnaldi” field hockey field in Lagaccio was inaugurated after radical adaptation works carried out by the Municipality of Genoa: renovated with a latest generation synthetic turf, it needed benches to be complete on the sidelines. Today, in the year in which Genoa is the European capital of sport, the intervention was carried out by the Italian Hockey Federation (Fih) thanks to an agreement for the supply with Asef Srl, the funeral and funeral transport company which, for years now, has been active in the social sphere and in supporting sport in the city.
On the occasion of the top flight match between Superba and Cus Pisa, the new structures were inaugurated by the president of the Ligurian regional committee Fih Franco Melis and bysole director of Asef Maurizio Barabino.
“Field hockey is a constantly growing movement – comments Barabino – Today, in Genoa alone, the Federation has over 500 members. Liguria is the first region in Italy in the ratio between number of practitioners and number of inhabitants. The federal activity is based on the work of many volunteers, including the Ligurian president Melis. We accepted his request for support, happy to complete a job that had been started by the Municipality of Genoa, which had taken on most of the costs with the renovation of the camp”.
In 2020, field hockey was included among the disciplines of the Ravano Trophy, giving great impetus to the registration of the youngest. “Today at the “Ravano” alone we can count 40 teams of primary school children – concludes Melis – Many of the children who discovered this sport have become passionate about it, signing up to one of the nine clubs present in Genoa (in Liguria there are 14, ed.) . Today Fih Liguria guarantees activities for age groups starting from 6 years and up, up to the top flight.”
