«I’m always focused on things to do. I think we must avoid getting into controversies that ultimately do not lead to a concrete result.” Thus the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi on the sidelines of the meetings promoted by the newspaper Tomorrow, regarding yesterday’s statements by the governor of Campania, Vincenzo De Luca. «Naples – the mayor specified – has suffered too many years of unproductive debate. Today we need to work on large infrastructures, on major works that the city and its metropolitan area needs, because we must think of the entire metropolitan area to create those development conditions that are necessary for the South and for our region.” «Naples – he concluded – is the great driving city, so I am 100 percent focused on the city, on the need for dialogue that the city has in order to achieve the development prospects it needs and that is therefore what I am working on. I think we are achieving important results, addressing issues that have been blocked for decades, for example the case of Bagnoli is one of those and therefore I don’t let myself be distracted by anything else.”

The paradigm shift with the past is evident: «It is very important that we have returned to this perspective of a Naples that does not look at itself but looks at the European and Euro-Mediterranean dimension. Because it is the natural place in which Naples can make a contribution, it can have a very important function for Europe, as a great bridge towards Africa, towards the wider Mediterranean and then it can also develop into an international dimension”, commented the mayor on the sidelines of the meeting on «The future of the South and the Mediterranean».
