A new library inaugurated in the Primo Maggio district

The pact is to seek together new ways to bring people and their relationships back to the center. In this sense he worked «Polo Primo Maggio», an alliance between the public, companies, private individuals and the third sectorwhich has allowed the creation of a series of projects that now provideopening of a library.

«We are convinced that libraries – said Stefano Negrinelli during the inauguration – are the answer to the needs and requirements of the territory. They are a meeting place, the first access to books for those who don’t have the habit of reading or can’t afford to buy books. The residents brought books, many people who frequent the neighborhood for work helped us paint, the guys from the La Rondine cooperative followed us in classifying the volumes.”

More than 600 books in the new library which has its headquarters inside the Rose center in via Presolana 38 and will be open for now on Tuesday (9.30-11.30) and Thursday (3-5pm). «In an increasingly digital world, libraries – commented Francesco Tomasini, councilor in charge of cultural activities – maintain a central role for sociality. These are the activities to be encouraged: when ideas start from the bottom they are already shared and therefore successful. You will be a model for other neighborhoods.”
A model that includes not only the library, but also training courses, dance courses and lots of sport: «We managed to experiment with the desire to work together – explained Francesca Megni, West Social Service manager – and it is a method that we want to spread throughout the west.”
