After Santa Marinella, Fiumicino and Civitavecchia, the City Council of Ladispoli also approved the establishment of the new Province Porta d’Italia.

“The most important feature of this ambitious project – commented Mayor Alessandro Grando – is that there is no dominant municipality over the others, as understandably happens in the Metropolitan City of Rome.

Within this body, the specific weight of our territories is inconsistent when compared with the capital and we are not in a position to significantly influence planning choices and the distribution of resources.

With the new Province there will therefore be a different approach that will guarantee autonomy, growth opportunities and equal dignity for each of the nine Municipalities that will be part of it: Ladispoli, Cerveteri, Fiumicino, Civitavecchia, Santa Marinella, Tarquinia, Allumiere, Tolfa and Monte Romano.

Furthermore, a province that can boast on its territory the presence of the port of Civitavecchia, among the most important in the Mediterranean, and the airport of Fiumicino, the most chosen for travel at a national level with over 8 million passengers per year, will have a considerable bargaining power towards the Lazio Region and the central Government.

It is regrettable that the council minority voted against this proposal, with the exception of Councilor Trani.

Having doubts is legitimate but justifying opposition to a project of this magnitude by stating that it will be just another useless public bandwagon means not having fully understood the motivations that inspired the establishment of the Gateway Province of Italy.

And furthermore, redesigning the political borders of our territory will certainly not physically distance us from the City of Rome, to which we will remain firmly linked by history, tradition and working relationships.

If we have arrived at this decision it is because we are absolutely not satisfied with what our territories receive from the Metropolitan City in terms of resources and consideration.

Our sole intent – concluded the Mayor – is to improve the quality of life of citizens, investing resources in a widespread manner to improve the services intended for them, strengthen the infrastructure and develop the local economy, with positive repercussions also in employment perspective.

With the new Porta d’Italia Province this will finally be possible”.
