«I leave a transparent prosecutor’s office, not polluted by conditioning»

PESARO – A “reassuring, unpolluted by conditioning” prosecutor’s office. These are the words of the chief prosecutor of the Pesaro court Cristina Tedeschini on the eve of taking on the role of head of the juvenile prosecutor’s office in the Marche region. After seven years of inquiries and investigations, a new chapter entrusted to her by the members of the fifth Commission of the Superior Council of the Judiciary unanimously.

Yesterday he greeted colleagues and employees of the court: Tedeschini spoke of “an adventure that began seven years ago, a moment in which you really need to prepare your handkerchiefs and keep your emotions at bay”. Then the budget. «I had the plan to commit myself to ensuring a reassuring power of attorney. Yes, because fear is a harmful feeling that devastates and is the enemy of democracy. I wanted to build a reassuring office in which there was no individual protagonism, but a harmonious project. A reassuring office towards the outside that could provide security, in which citizens see that far-fetched investigations are not being carried out, investigations that can be perceived by people”. Tedeschini underlined the concept of a «transparent prosecutor’s office, capable of giving a response appropriate to what people expect in the times and in the manner. And above all an office with independent action, not polluted by proximity or conditioning. In my opinion we succeeded so much as to find a situation of people’s trust towards the prosecutor’s office. I found hard-working and reserved colleagues.” Finally the numbers. «We have carried out 24,718 cases against known persons and 15,162 against unknown persons, as well as 2,606 cases before the justice of the peace in these seven years. I leave the prosecutor’s office without any outstanding files.” Finally, a political jab at those who talk about separating prosecutors from the judiciary. «It is said that it is an additional security for citizens. But these seven years have demonstrated the opposite: the prosecutor is a great guarantee of freedom and democracy for citizens.”

The president of the court Lorena Mussoni joined in the greeting: «Tedeschini will be able to carry out the new role in the best possible way because she has an important sensitivity, the one necessary to be in the juvenile court». The president of the Bar Association Arturo Pardi also paid homage. «It must be acknowledged that this prosecutor’s office has always had as its principle the search for the truth, with passion, desire and intellectual honesty».
