Giro d’Italia 2024: here is the prize money

Saturday 4 May starts Giro d’Italia 2024the 107th edition which will start from the Piedmont Region which hosts the Grande Partenza for the fourth time.

After Turinon Sunday 5 May, it will be time for an uphill finish, with the San Francesco al Campo-Santuario di Oropa (Biella), and the third and final Piedmontese stage will be the Novara-Fossano, crossing the Boot the Giro will end in Rome Sunday 26 May after 3,321.2 km and 42,900 meters of altitude difference.

Participating in the Giro d’Italia is a highly coveted goal for professional cyclists but also for the rich prize money up for grabs. Let’s see how much it amounts to and all the other expected prizes.

Giro d’Italia 2024: the prize money

The prize money for the 2024 Giro d’Italia will be 1.5 million euros, the same amount as the last four seasons and the winner of the Corsa Rosa will earn 265,000 euros.

There will also be prizes for the top 20 in the general ranking as well as awards for the individual stages. Here is the entire prize money for the Giro d’Italia 2024 in detail.

  • Giro d’Italia 2024 winner: 115,668 euros + 150,000 euros (special prize). Total: 265,668
  • Second: 58,412 + 75,000 euros (special prize)
  • Third: 28,801 + 40,000 euros (special prize)
  • Fourth: 14,516 + 7,000 euros (special prize)
  • Fifth: 11,654 + 6,500 euros (special prize)
  • Sixth and seventh: 8,588 euros + 5,000 euros (special prize)
  • Eighth and ninth: 5,725 euros + 5,000 euros (special prize)
  • Tenth place: 2,863 euros + 5,000 euros (special prize)
  • From eleventh to twentieth place: 2,863 euros
  • TOTAL PRIZE MONEY: 592,670 euros (289,170 euros + 303,500 special prizes)

Prizes for individual stages

Specific prizes are also provided for the individual stages, namely:

  • First place: 11,010 euros
  • Second: 5,508 euros
  • Third: 2,753 euros
  • Fourth: 1,377 euros
  • Fifth: 1,102 euros
  • Sixth and seventh: 826 euros
  • Eighth and ninth: 551 euros
  • From tenth to twentieth place: 276 euros

Prizes based on shirts

The cyclist wearing the pink jersey earns 2,000 euros per stage, while the one wearing the cyclamen jersey earns 750 euros per stage and a final prize of 10 thousand euros. The prize for the single stage for the person wearing the blue jersey, i.e. the best climber, is 750 euros, with a final prize of 5 thousand euros.

The cyclist who wears the white jersey (i.e. the best young rider) earns 750 euros per stage and 10 thousand euros for the final winner.

The special prizes: Escape and Combat

The Escape Award it is intended for the runner who, in each road stage and throughout the entire Giro d’Italia, interprets the technical gesture of the breakaway with particular courage and consistency. For the purposes of the official rankings, an attack action – conducted alone or in a group comprising no more than ten (10) Runners – which covers a distance of no less than five (5) kilometers is considered an “escape”.

The stage ranking will be drawn up on the basis of the breakaway kilometers totaled in the conditions determined by the previous paragraph. What is reported by Radio Corsa and certified in the official press releases will prevail. Each stage winner of the Fuga Prize will be awarded a prize of €200 and the winner of the final general classification will be awarded a prize of €5,000.

The Combattivity Award is given to chorrendous who strives to achieve results in all competitive moments of the race. Every day the sum of the points achieved by each Rider will determine a ranking and the one who achieves the best score will be declared “Stage Fighter” and will receive a daily prize of €1000 (total €19,000).
