The first official event dedicated to sport climbing took place on Sunday 21 April at the Calà del Sasso crag in Valtagna, organized by the Cai Veneto Youth Groups, with the support of the regional group and the Alpine Rescue.
A day dedicated to climbing, which aimed to put the young climbers of the many young groups that are forming within the sections of the Cai Veneto in contact with each other. The event was organized completely independently by the young people and coordinated by the representative for the youth groups of Cai Veneto.
The organization
The setting for this first event was the Calà del Sasso crag in Valstagna. This was chosen by the kids for its centrality in the region, which allowed everyone to reach it without traveling too far. The characteristics of the crag and the open spaces around the walls then favored moments of socialization.
As regards the participants, we wanted to involve young people between 18 and 40 years old, members of the Italian Alpine Club, who were independent in climbing. To do this, the coordinators of the various groups were involved, who acted as spokespersons for the young people of each section. The idea was to involve all young groups, so that everyone could be represented.
The initiative was recognized by the Cai regional group of Veneto as an institutional activity and therefore with the insurance coverage provided for such activities. A team from the Alpine Rescue team was present for the entire duration of the event and we would like to thank them.
Ideas for the future
This first event was very successful and appreciated by the kids. It will be the first of many, with the aim of involving an ever-increasing number of kids, in particular young instructors from local mountaineering schools.
