The RS21 Cup YamamayYamamay lands in the Tyrrhenian Sea in the heart of Tuscany

The RS21 Italian Class fleet returns to the water and does so by landing in the heart of Tuscany, on the Tyrrhenian Sea, for the second stage of the RS21 Cup Yamamay scheduled for 3 to 5 May in Cala de’ Medici. A particularly awaited Act 2 after a crackling start to the season in Porto Rotondo in which “Diva”, by Andrea Battistella (Unione Velica Maccagno), scored its first ever victory ahead of the expert team of “Brontolo” by Filippo Pacinotti (Sef Stamura Ancona) still finished on equal points with his opponent. The third step of the podium went to “Torpyone” by Edoardo Lupi (Club Nautico Varazze).

But now everything is reset by entrusting the direction and coordination of the Tuscan stage to the expertise of the Cala de’ Medici Yacht Club and the great professionalism of the Cala de’ Medici Marina. On the starting line there will be 26 owners who will battle it out for a decidedly interesting three days.

And there will be no shortage of news with the debut of the owners Roberto Caresani (Aval-Cdv – Centro Vela Alto Lario Gravedona) with “Spirit of Nerina”, Giancarlo Capolino with “Ita 226” (Crv Italia Napoli) and Charlotte Borghesi with “Kinzink” ( Dubai Offshore Sailing Team).

Cala de’ Medici will also be the opportunity for the second training step dedicated to the newly created Next Gen Under 23 category which is receiving acclaim from many quarters. In the “chair” will be Enrico Chieffi (currents and first beat) and Giulio Desiderato (sails) with the coordination of Niccolò Bianchi.

And we come to the regatta. The wait is to understand how much the “Diva” team has grown to the point of being able to defend the provisional leadership in the presence of renowned owners and helmsmen ready to launch the attack on the young Milanese sailor Andrea Battistella. There is a lot of anticipation for this regatta on the Fiv calendar.

If in the Open the Act 2 appears uncertain, in the Corinthian the expert from the Marche Federica Archibugi started off at the right pace and in Sardinia took her “Stick ‘N Poke” to the top step of the podium, immediately making it clear that she wanted aim for supremacy.

The newly created Under 23 category was hotly contested with twists and turns on several occasions. On the top step of the podium for now is “Nox Oceani 231” by Francesco Columbano (Nox Oceani Porto Rotondo) but it will not be easy to defend the lead because there are three teams in one place.

So all that remains is to wait for the response at sea.

After Cala de’ Medici the other Acts of the RS21 Cup Yamamay will be: 7/9 June Riva del Garda; 5/7 July Malcesine; 29 August – 1 September Torbole where the Italian title will also be awarded. Finally, the season will end with the World Championship scheduled from 24 to 27 September in Spain on the Costa Brava in L’Esala.
