Imola, minute’s silence for Ayrton Senna and Ronald Ratzenberger

(LaPresse) The minute of silence in memory of the Brazilian driver took place at the stroke of 2.17pm, the time of the tragic accident in which Ayrton Senna lost his life on 1 May 1994, at the Tamburello curve of the Imola racetrack, in the exact spot of the track where the tragedy took place thirty years ago. In addition to Senna, the Austrian Roland Ratzenberger also lost his life that weekend, whose car crashed at 314.9 km/h into the external wall of the ‘Tosa’ curve named after Gilles Villeneuve on Saturday 30 April. Various authorities were present at the celebrations: the vice president of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, the Minister of University and Research Anna Maria Bernini, the Minister of Foreign Relations of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Mauro Vieira, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria, Alexander Schallenberg, the mayor of Imola, Marco Panieri, the CEO of Formula One, Stefano Domenicali and the President of Formula Imola, Gian Carlo Minardi. Those present also laid a wreath of flowers at the scene of the accident to remember Senna.
