He is short of breath and struggling to breathe, so a 65-year-old man from Povoletto presents himself at the emergency room of the Santa Maria della Misericordia hospital in Udine. And he does it twice, within 48 hours. Each time he is discharged and sent home. Two days later the 65-year-old gonna die in an ambulance in a desperate attempt to get to hospital. The man had been taken ill and presented the same symptoms related to breathing difficulties.

The investigations

An investigation has been opened for manslaughter, three suspects: two cardiologists and an emergency room doctor. Yesterday, April 30, an autopsy was performed on the man’s body as ordered by the Udine Prosecutor’s Office which opened the case file after the complaint from the man’s wife and daughter. The outcome of the examination ascertained that the 65-year-old’s death was caused by pulmonary embolism. The examination was carried out by the medical examiner Antonello Cirnelli and the suspects’ experts also participated. Other investigations will also be completed within 90 days which will be able to shed light on what happened and will therefore be able to establish whether the pathology could have been identified when the man was visited in the emergency room of the city hospital twice.
