‘I hope Capuano can do better than me’

The former coach: ‘In 2008 we were stronger than Ancona, but it wasn’t enough’

(By Anthony Carrano) Taranto is preparing to experience the most exciting phase of the season: after twelve long years, the Ionian team will once again rely on the playoff lottery to try to regain the top spot after over 30 years.

The freshest wound that burns between the rossoblù hearts is certainly the final lost against Ancona in the 2007/08 season, a defeat that remained imprinted in the mind of Marco Cari, the coach who missed the appointment with Serie B by a whisker. Interviewed by Vito Di Noi for Quotidiano Di Puglia, the former rossoblù coach expressed himself on the current championship that has just concluded: “Taranto had an extraordinary year, just think that in the second round they scored 36 points” .

HIS TARANTO: “Mine was above all a group of men, as well as footballers of extraordinary quality. For example, in the last few hours, I heard from Fabio Prosperi who has just won the Serie D championship with Pianese. That lack of promotion to Serie B remains the biggest regret of my career.”

PLAYOFFS MISSED IN 2008: “That Taranto was the strongest Group B of the then Serie C1, I am convinced of this even after years and I have my good reasons for saying so. But Ancona went to Serie B because, in the first leg, we didn’t have Mancini and Cutolo, two of the team’s cornerstones, so much so that in Taranto, in the first leg, it ended 0-0 and then we lost in the Marches the return. This is why it is essential to stay focused and leverage every necessary resource so that the objective is achieved.”

WISH: “I only touched on B, I wish Capuano to bring the Tarantini back to Serie B, where they deserve: an extraordinary place that deserves the best”
