Speaking to the microphones of Radio Sportiva, Vittorio Pusceddu he spoke about the Italian teams involved in Europe and the difficulties of the Italian youth sectors in producing new talents for the national team. Below are the words of the former rossoblù, taken from TuttoCagliari.net: “I believe that Italy has demonstrated that it has values on the pitch already last year. We are still not at the level we were a few years ago, but last year we reached three finals, unfortunately all of which we lost. This year we present ourselves with teams both in the Europa League and in the Conference League, which could give us some satisfaction. Italian football is doing very well, although I’m sorry that there are few Italians and perhaps too many foreigners.
Unfortunately, there are many foreigners in the youth sectors. For example, Cagliari’s youth sector, which until a few years ago was made up only of Sardinian players, now unfortunately has many foreigners, especially continental ones. He is no longer able to produce a Sardinian player for the higher categories, such as Barella, Murru, Deiola, and many others who, at the moment, are playing in Serie C and Serie B.
Since the Bosman ruling, in my opinion, too many foreigners have arrived. I believe that, for the good of Italy and above all of the Italian nation, we should put a limit on these foreigners. We should have at least a tenth of the Italian players on the pitch, otherwise even the national team will struggle to find important players. This is fundamental.”
“Cagliari’s youth sector no longer produces Sardinians like Barella, Murru or Deiola. Now they are all foreigners or continentals”
