Trapani, clash in the Council over Trapani Servizi

Towards another two months of layoffs for the 40 employees of Trapani Servizi, the company 100% owned by the Municipality that deals with waste treatment, forced into social safety nets due to the stop to the garbage cycle imposed on the company itself.

Tore Fileccia, municipal councilor of the Movement for Autonomy, announced it during the last session of the municipal council, in which he turned the spotlight on the subsidiary and its difficulties. Not only for the waste cycle, but also for the injunctions that Trapani Servizi obtained against the Municipality of Trapani, for interventions insured over the years, but for which it did not obtain payments.

The crisis for Trapani Servizi began last February, when, following an inspection by ARPA technicians in the Gela landfill, where the waste was transported, it was ascertained that some values of the waste treated were well above the limits imposed. by current law. Some exceeded the maximum threshold by 4 times and, thus, Fileccia places emphasis on the functioning of the system.

Again layoffs for workers

Over the last few years, the Trapani Servizi plant has suffered two different fires, following which the repair work was entrusted. The company that carried out the interventions ensured perfect functioning, but, according to the Mpa councillor, ARPA’s checks highlight problems, so “it is necessary to understand in which part of the treatment cycle the limits are not respected”.

Above all, it is the workers who pay the consequences, those employees who find themselves laid off, to whom Fileccia’s thoughts go, because “qThese employees find themselves with less money available”.

“There are 40 workers without prospects”, Miceli’s words

Along the same lines was the speech by Maurizio Miceli, provincial coordinator of Fratelli D’Italia. “In the session of the City Council, during inspection activities – explains Miceli – we asked the Mayor for clarification, always too approximate, on the state of Trapani Servizi, stopped for waste treatment activities, with 40 workers on redundancy pay and without concrete prospects. Trapani Servizi could be a cutting-edge subsidiary, as it had been in other times, but it needs competent governance, it needs an industrial plan, it needs politics, the real one, fugitive in Palazzo D’Ali since 2018“.

The mayor warns Trapani Servizi

Mayor Giacomo Tranchida, in his reply speech, explained how he has already met the needs of society in past years, proceeding with the modification of the statute, in order to ensure other services and not just waste collection. But, above all, Tranchida, right at the end, issues a sort of warning to the company’s top management, hinting at a possible rotation in the event that the problem is not resolved. “I don’t consider myself indispensable – concluded the mayor – and, in the same way, I don’t consider the top management of Trapani Servizi to be indispensable, both the political and the technical ones”.
