Ricci (Pd): “With these numbers we risk a deficit”

Angiani, Budget Councilor replies: “We spent a lot because the city needed it”

VITERBO – There was discussion about balance in the last council session. Punctilious and very technical topic. Alarm bells are ringing about rising expenses and falling revenues.

The PD group leader intervened precisely on this issue, Alvaro Ricci. “We have never seen figures of this significance. The risk of deficit is high, according to the councilor. “We have reached worrying figures because we are faced with a decrease in income and an increase in expenses. The budget is at a loss despite mortgage payments being postponed to 2025. Imagine what would have happened if the postponement had not been implemented. The deficit is one step away. There is an absence of economic policy in the city, which affects many aspects, such as decorum. For generations the budgets of the municipality of Viterbo have always been in order. The numbers tell us that there is something to worry about, there is a risk of a deficit.”

The Budget Councilor, Elena Angiani, responded to councilor Ricci’s reflections. “Yes there are alarm bells, this is beyond doubt. But it’s not that alarming. We are given an indication of the improvements of some items. In the 2023 math, the administration spent more than it earned. It’s a situation that needs to be corrected. But it must also be analyzed from the point of view of the city’s needs. We spent a lot because we needed to spend. The data must be seen from the perspective of an administration that wanted to respond to the city’s critical issues.”
