«Is Carelli going to Pesaro? Slap to the Fermano. We are not protected”

A slap in the face to a territory that had just asked for the attention it deserves.” The mayor of Fermo Paolo Calcinaro did not swallow the appointment of Alberto Carelli as general director of Ast Pesaro. The Fermo health company suddenly finds itself without an administrative director, after having also lost the health director a few weeks ago (the official announcement of the replacement should arrive this week). The news, that of Carelli’s leave, «arrived on Monday afternoon out of a clear sky. I didn’t know anything about it – attacks the mayor – Just two weeks ago at the open city council we asked for a commitment from the Region for an area that for too long has been the Cinderella of healthcare in the Marche region. And what do they do? When another province has a sudden difficulty, they come to take away from those who are worse off. An unacceptable choice.”

The lunge

However, Calcinaro compliments Carelli: «Congratulations and best wishes for good work. If he has received such an important assignment and his value has evidently been recognised, it is natural for him to accept a promotion. But the question is not about his person and skills, which I have had the opportunity to appreciate in this short time. The point is that professionalism is taken away from the province that is furthest behind.” Calcinaro highlights, among other things, that «the Region has cut 120 thousand euros for the Montessori rehabilitation centre, we had opened a table with Carelli and he had proposed some solutions to recover sums without which services for disabled people would be reduced». The first recipient of the mayor’s arrows is the regional councilor for health Filippo Saltamartini, Calcinaro in fact praises the councilor Francesco Baldelli «who has done more than his own, given that with the resources for construction he has also included technologies for the theaters operations. I now ask President Acquaroli to act as guarantor. He has done it on other issues, such as public transport. It is clear that we are not protected in health matters. He takes matters into his own hands.” Recalling the conclusions of the open municipal council on healthcare, the Mayor recalls that «we have also highlighted positive aspects, I am thinking of programmed hemodynamics or the robot. But we have a serious difficulty on the personnel front, where we are last in the Marche. We also raised a topic, that of resources for hospital technologies, on which we had no response.” Answers that Calcinaro now demands, also because, with the Carelli case, «a very bad signal was given and if this is the climate, trust has an end. The health department guarantees the equipment needed for the new hospital.” Calcinaro makes it known that he has not heard from governor Acquaroli or Saltamartini.

The signal

«We briefly exchanged messages with the regional councilors of the province. I find this appointment of Carelli to be a bad signal, a serious thing that I felt it was my duty to point out forcefully. I think you can acknowledge that I am certainly not a mayor who seeks controversy at all costs. I’m not the one who asks for everything and everywhere, because I know the difficulties and I respect the institutions. This time, however, we cannot remain silent.” In closing, the mayor of Fermo reserves the right to propose a single document to his 39 colleagues in the province. “I will listen to the Assembly, let’s evaluate whether to prepare a shared document, I don’t see why there shouldn’t be unanimity.”
