Men’s Lacrosse Trio Earns All-ACC Accolades

CHARLOTTE, NC – Three Syracuse University men’s lacrosse student-athletes have earned recognition from the Atlantic Coast Conference as the ACC prepares for the upcoming men’s lacrosse tournament.

Billy Dwan, Owen Hiltzand Will Mark all earned a place on the 2024 All-ACC Men’s Lacrosse Team. The league office announced its annual awards Tuesday afternoon.

Syracuse, which went 11-4 overall and 3-1 in ACC play during the regular season, locked down the number two seed in the return of the ACC Tournament. The Orange were projected to finish last in a preseason poll of the league’s head coaches.

Dwan was a key player in helping the Orange allow just 44 goals in their four ACC games this spring, including a pair of games holding opposing teams to single digit goals (4 vs. Duke, 9 vs. North Carolina). Dwan caused 14 turnovers during the regular season, including three in the final two games of the regular season. A threat in transition as well, Dwan racked up seven goals, including the game-tying goal in Syracuse’s 18-17 win over No. 4 Virginia. Dwan took just one penalty during the ACC campaign.

Hiltz quarterbacked one of the ACC’s top offensive units as Syracuse led the league in team assists per game (8.75) by well over an assist per game. During ACC play, Hiltz was tied for the third-most goals per game (2.25) and the sixth-most assists per game (1.50), averaging 3.75 points per game, which ranked fifth in the ACC during conference games. Overall, Hiltz was tied for the sixth-best goals per game average (2.36), ninth-best assists per game average (1.50), and the ninth-best points per game average (3.86).

One of the nation’s best backstops, Mark allowed just 44 goals against ACC teams, noted among the best scoring offenses in the country. Mark turned in the best save percentage in the ACC regular season at 56.4, nearly two and a half points better than the next-best save percentage in the league. Mark had the second-best goals against average during conference action (11.00) and the best saves per game ratio (14.25) in the league.

Major award winners from the ACC include: Offensive Player of the Year Pat Kavanagh (Notre Dame), Defensive and Goalie of the Year Liam Entenmann (Notre Dame), Freshman of the Year Owen Duffy (North Carolina), and Coach of the Year Kevin Corrigan (Notre Dame).

Second-seeded Syracuse takes on third-seeded Duke this Friday in the ACC Tournament semifinals. Game time is set for 8 pm on ACC Network at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The ACC Championship game is set for a noon start on Sunday, May 5 on ACC Network while the 2024 NCAA Tournament field will be announced during a selection show on Sunday with a 9:30 pm start time on ESPN2.
