Almost 20 thousand attendees at the Turin Jazz Festival

Jazz music in its most diverse facets, including new productions and exclusive, great ones
world stage musicians and emerging artists, in theaters and clubs across the city and a
great response from the public, with almost every concert sold out, both on the main stage
than clubs. These are in brief the results of the twelfth edition of Torino Jazz
Festival that has just ended.
A great result for the 11 days of programming, from 20 to 30 April, that they have
saw an attendance of 13,139 spectators at the 17 concerts of the main schedule and 3,900 at the 34
concerts in clubs. 33 Jazz Blitz, which involved 1,350 people, while Jazz Talk and
Jazz Special were followed by 1,140 fans. A total of 19,529 attendance, which
marks an increase of 6% compared to 2023. The presence at the concerts of
spectators from all over Italy and abroad, some of whom arrived
specifically in Turin to follow the TJF during the long weekends of April 25th and May 1st.
When we started working on the 2024 edition of the Torino Jazz Festival – ha
declared the artistic director Stefano Zenni – we imagined offering a portrait of the
today’s jazz through the art of the most diverse musicians, without locking ourselves into fences
non-existent, to compose a tapestry of sounds. Judging by the enthralling involvement
of the city, by the enthusiasm of the public and even by the thanks of the musicians,
that tapestry came to life in beautiful forms. Thanks to jazz, created by oppressed people
in order to express ourselves freely, we are able to counter darkness with light
wonderful music.
After the inauguration with the marching band JST Jazz Parade, which gave on Saturday 20 April
the festival starts, musicians of the caliber of Dave Holland, Christian McBride, Gonzalo
Rubalcaba, John Zorn, Roscoe Mitchell and Roberto Gatto took to the stages of
Torino Jazz Festival to give, together with many other artists, unforgettable moments of
big music. Long applause and standing ovation also for the Malian singer
Fatoumata Diawara, who has overwhelmed an audience of more than a dozen people with the energy of her music
1500 spectators during the concert on the occasion of Liberation Day at the Theatre
Royal.
Of note is the collaboration between the Torino Jazz Festival and the Cinema Museum, with the
screening of four documentaries dedicated to John Zorn and Duke Ellington, including the
world premiere of Steve and the Duke, and the Suspended Groove exhibitions, dedicated to past ones
editions of the TJF, and Teranga Mon Amour. Souvenirs of Senegal.
The final concert of this edition, Tuesday 30 April, was entrusted to Paolo Fresu
Quintet, together with the Torino Jazz Orchestra on the stage of the Giovanni Agnelli Auditorium.
An original, sold-out production, conducted and arranged by Paolo
Silvestri.
